Constantine has a very gently sloping beach and at low water the sea seems miles away from the sand dunes that edge it and as it retreats it leaves behind a complex pattern made by all the pools in the sand. It is this pattern I have looked at very carefully in this painting. I have also tried to capture the great sweep of the beach as it curves away, leading the eye up and over the fields of Trevose Head.
