The view is eastwards towards Otter Head where the River Otter finally leaves the saltmarsh and cascades across the shingle to the join the sea. Most of the boats are upside down or covered to keep out the off-season elements. The dark upright form is an old capstan, which at one time would have been fitted with long poles so that men could winch their boats up the steep shingle beach to safety.
